ᨦ (ṅa)

1. The 13th letter and fifth consonant of the Tai Tham Pali alphabet. It represents the velar nasal consonant /ŋ/.
   • Pali ᨾᨲ᩠ᨳᩃᩩᨦ᩠ᨣ (matthaluṅga, “brain”)
   • Northern Thai ᨦᩪ (ngu, “snake”)
   • Lü ᨦᩪ (nguu, “snake”)
   • Lü ᩈᩥ᩠ᨷᩈᩬᨦᨻᩢ᩠ᨶᨶᩣ (ṡiibṡoangpannaa, “Xishuangbanna”)

As the first element of a consonant cluster not at the start of a word, this letter commonly takes the superscript form ᩘ (“mai kang lai”). The different superscript form used for a syllable-final consonant in the vernaculars is encoded as the combining mark ᩙ.
