Letter
ᩉ (ha)
- The 39th letter and 31st consonant of the Tai Tham Pali alphabet. In Pali it represents the voiced, glottal fricative consonant /ɦ/, written <h> in the Roman script.
Usage notes
In the modern vernacular languages, this letter represents the voiceless glottal fricative /h/.
As the initial consonant of a consonant cluster, it usually only has the effect of converting the following consonant to the same consonant class as itself and is otherwise silent. This effect is limited to class nasals and semivowels (in the wide sense used in Sanskrit); these consonants are sometimes referred to collectively as resonants. This follows the general rule that the consonant class of a consonant cluster is the class of the initial consonant.
