ἄγυια
Ancient Greek
Alternative forms
- ᾰ̓γυιᾱ́ (ăguiā́) (less frequent)
Etymology
Mainly a poetic word. Generally considered to be a perfect participle of verb ᾰ̓́γω (ắgō, “I lead”), but without the reduplication. However, this makes little sense as the formation is without a parallel (save archaic ἰδυῖα (iduîa)); more probably a Pre-Greek word in -υια, like κώδυια (kṓduia).
