From ῠ̔ποτῐ́θημῐ (hŭpotĭ́thēmĭ, I place under, set before, suggest) +‎ -σῐς (-sĭs), from ῠ̔πο- (hŭpo-, below) + τῐ́θημῐ (tĭ́thēmĭ, to put, place).
