Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *webʰ- (to weave), and therefore related distantly to Old English wefan (whence English weave), Sanskrit उभ्नाति (ubhnāti, entwine), Persian بافتن (bâftan), Tocharian A wäp- (weave).[1]
