Etymology

Blend of 懐かしい (natsukashii, “nostalgic, dear”) +‎ メロディー (merodī, “melody, song, tune”), as a shortening of the phrase 「懐かしのメロディー」 (Natsukashi no Merodī), the name of a radio program broadcast by NHK from 1945 through 1955.^[1]^[2]^[3]
