Literally, our country. Inherited from Old Japanese. First attested in the Kojiki of 712 CE with the phonetic spelling 和賀久邇.[1]

Nominal phrase, composed of (wa, I, me) +‎ (ga, genitive or possessive particle in Old Japanese) +‎ (kuni, country, nation).[1][2][3][4]
