  1. quyi; a category of traditional, usually non-staged, Chinese vocal art forms such as ballad singing (唱曲 (chàngqǔ) or 彈唱弹唱 (tánchàng)), storytelling (說書说书 (shuōshū)), comic dialogues (小品 (xiǎopǐn)), clapper talk (快板 (kuàibǎn)), and crosstalk (相聲相声 (xiàngsheng))

Usage notes

The term 曲藝/曲艺 acquired wide usage only after 1949. It is nearly synonymous with the earlier term 說唱说唱 (shuōchàng).
