Usage notes
甯 is considered a variant character of 寧/宁 (níng) in Mainland China. Before the endorsement of usage of variant character in surname in 中华人民共和国国家通用语言文字法 (2000), the official simplified form was 宁. In 通用规范汉字表 (2013), 甯 becomes the standard form for the surname sense. Nevertheless, in Mainland China, 宁 is still common used for the surname sense today, where 甯 is uncommon.
