Etymology
Compound of 蘆 (ashi, “reed, rush”) + 名 (na, “fame, reputation”). Originally the name of a place in the Miura Peninsula[1] (current Kanagawa Prefecture; see 芦名 (Ashina)) presumably known for reeds.
