Etymology

Compound of 雪(ゆき) (yuki, “snow”) + 吊(つ)り (tsuri, “hanging, slinging”), the 連(れん)用(よう)形(けい) (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 吊(つ)る (tsuru, “to hang something, to suspend something”).[1][2][3] The tsuri changes to zuri as an instance of rendaku (連濁).

Occasionally also encountered without rendaku, as yukitsuri.
