Usage notes

Since Kim Jong Un's announcement of abandonment of peaceful unification in late 2023, North Korea government started using 한국 (han'guk), which is the official name of South Korea in Korean, or 괴뢰 한국 (goeroe han'guk, “puppet regime Korea”), instead of 남조선 (namjoseon) to reflect the official stance that North and South Korea are different countries.[1]
