Korean
Etymology
First attested in the Bullyu dugongbu si eonhae (分類杜工部詩諺解 / 분류두공부시언해), 1481, as Middle Korean 삷〮 (Yale: sálp).
The unusual simplification of the final consonant cluster may have been due to misinterpretation of the word as deriving from Sino-Korean 鍤 (sap), a rare word for "shovel".
Pronunciation
- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [sʰa̠p̚]
- Phonetic hangul: [삽]
