First attested in the Dictionnaire coréen-français (韓佛字典 / 한불자전), 1880, as Early Modern Korean 새악씨 (Yale: sayakssi). Also attested in the Dictionnaire coréen-français (韓佛字典 / 한불자전), 1880, as Early Modern Korean 새아기씨 (Yale: sayakissi).

Most likely equivalent to 새 (sae, “new”) +‎ 아가씨 (agassi, “young lady”).
