Middle Korean
Etymology
From 하〮- (há-, “to be big”) + -ㄴ (-n, realis adnominal suffix) + 아비〮 (àpí, “father”).
하〮다〮 (hátá) belongs to tone class H!, meaning that its realis adnominal form is generally expected to be 한 (han, “hàn”), not 한〮 (hán). However, this high tone is consistent with some other compounds, see e.g. 한〮숨〯 (hánswǔm, “sigh (lit. big breath)”).
