π‘ππ²π
Mycenaean Greek
Etymology
Uncertain. Written smaller before the listing of the last four vessels, drawn as π§ (*208VAS), which most sources consider to be the ideographic rendition thereof. As the vessel's name, perhaps connected to ΟΟΞ³Ο (phαΉgΕ, βto roastβ), reconstructing a hypothetical *ΟΟΞΊΟΞΌΞ¬ (*phΕktmΓ‘, βvessel for roastingβ). Alternatively, it has been linked to ΟΟΞΏΟΞΊΟάομαι (prosktΓ‘omai, βto additionally buyβ), as a general description of the more precious vessels that close the list.
