Cognates with Oscan aeteis, Ancient Greek Ξ±αΌ΄Ξ½Ο ΞΌΞ±ΞΉ (aΓnumai), Tocharian B ai-, and Tocharian A e- (βto give, takeβ). Possibly from Proto-Italic *agΕ, from Proto-Indo-European *hβΓ©Η΅eti, from Proto-Indo-European *hβeΗ΅-. If this theory were accurate, the term would be cognate with Latin agΕ.
