From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hyáȷ́āmadʰay (1st person plural middle indicative of *Hyáȷ́- (to worship)), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁yaǵ- (to worship). Cognate with Sanskrit यजामहे (yajāmahe, 1st person plural middle indicative of यज् (yaj)).
