Inherited from Sanskrit उप॑विशति (úpaviśati). By surface analysis, 𑀉𑀯- (uva-) + 𑀯𑀺𑀲𑀇 (visaï). Cognate with Pali upavisati.

Descendants
Many words have initial b- due to late Prakritic aphaeresis of u- and dialectal fortition of the following -v-. Some words phonologically descend from 𑀯𑀲𑀇 (vasaï, “to live, dwell”) but have been semantically contaminated by this term.
