Etymology
From Latin -īna and its derived forms in other European languages, such as Danish -ine, present in many borrowed names and subsequently used independently to form new Icelandic names.

- (humorous) forms nouns descriptive of women, e.g. óléttína (“pregnant woman”) from óléttur (“pregnant”)
