Gothic
Etymology
Among the Germanic languages this suffix is only found in Gothic, where it seems to have been highly productive. There have been attempts to link it to other Indo-European languages; Joseph (1982) suggests a link with Ancient Greek -ΟΞ± (-pha), an adverbial suffix (found in e.g. ΞΌΞΟΟΞ± (mΓ©spha)), from a supposed Proto-Indo-European *-bΚ°ehβ. This etymology is incomplete. You can help Wiktionary by elaborating on the origins of this term.
