First attested as lutekedrecht around 1312. Compound of Middle Dutch Ave (a personal name) and horn (“corner, protruding bend”). The village was originally called Lutekedrecht, a compound of Middle Dutch luttik (“small”) and drecht (“ferry, watercourse”).
