Bekenes
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as bekenesse in 1363. Compound of an unclear first element and Middle Dutch nesse (“headland, spit”). The first element may be Beke (a personal name) or a hydronym derived from beke (“brook, stream”), which would be a rarity for the polders west of Utrecht.
