Boschoord
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as Kolonie No 7 in 1846. Compound of van den Bosch (a surname) and oord (“place”). The settlement was named after Johannes van de Bosch, a government administrator who promoted the concept of sending the poor and dispossessed to work settlements in Drenthe in order to transform them into model citizens.
