Chersodromia

Etymology

By surface analysis, Ancient Greek χέρσος (khérsos, dry land, land not in or under water; dry) +‎ Ancient Greek δρόμος (drómos, race; racetrack) +‎ -ia. Interpretable as "land-racer" or "dry racer." Likely modeled after Tachydromia, the type genus of the subfamily Tachydromiinae, of which this genus is a member. (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium. Particularly: “Is there an attestable root term akin to *χερσοδρομια or *χερσοδρομος?”)

Coined by English entomologist Francis Walker in 1849.
