Etymology

First attested as dolreberchs hofstede in 1388. Etymology uncertain. Potentially derived from a compound of Proto-Germanic *þulla (“beam, tree trunk”) and *haru (“sandy ridge”) or *heri (“place with a sandy ridge”). An alternative hypothesis proposes a derivation from a term cognate to Old Frisian dole (“hole, pit, ditch”). Compare Dulder.
