From Ancient Greek ἐπί (epí, “upon, on”) + εἴρω (eírō, “weave, string”).[1]

- (archaic) A taxonomic genus within the family Araneidae – certain orb-weaving spiders, now considered a junior synonym of Araneus.
Usage notes
- At one time almost all spiders now in Araneidae, then called Epeiriade, were placed in Epeira.
