Usage notes

Kindertagesstätte is generally used as the umbrella term for any childcare facility, but in some states it may be distinguished from Krippe, for children from birth until 2 or 3, and from Hort, which provides afterschool care for older children, in which case it is a synonym of Kindergarten.
