First attested as snodelhoet [read: snodelhoec] in 1319. Originally a compound of Middle Dutch snodel (dummy, fool) and hoec (isolated place). The current toponym is a compound of Knolleman (a surname) and hoek. Compare Snel in Snel en Polanen, Snelleveld and Snijdelwijk.
