Borrowed from Latin leprosus (“leprous, scaly”). Further from Latin lepra (“leprosy”), Koine Greek λέπρᾱ (léprā, “psoriasis, leprosy”).
Coined by Il-Kwon Kim and by Australian entomologist John La Salle in 2008.
