Lingsfort
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as lynxvoert in 1330. Compound of an unclear first element and Middle Dutch voert (“ford, crossing”). The first element is potentially related to West Flemish lents (“weak, powerless, slow”) or dialectal Dutch lens (“empty”). No relationship to lynx (“lynx, Lynx lynx”).
