Mùi

Vietnamese
Etymology
Non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese 未 (SV: vị). Some dictionaries (such as Thiều Chửu's) consider it as Sino-Vietnamese, but the huyền tone is unlikely to be derived from the Middle Chinese departing tone and ui is unlikely to be a Sino-Vietnamese rhyme, compared to the likely tone and rhyme in vị. See also Tí, Mẹo, Thìn, Ngọ.
Cognate with Northern Thai ᨾᩮᩢ᩠ᨯ or ᨾᩮ᩠ᨯ, Lü ᦵᦙᧆ (med), Isan มด, Lao ມົດ (mot).
