Neoophora
Translingual
Etymology
From Ancient Greek νέος (néos, “new”) + ᾠόν (ōión, “egg”) + -φόρος (-phóros, “bearing”), in reference to their ectolecithal eggs.
Proper noun
Neoophora
- (archaic) A taxonomic infraclass within the phylum Platyhelminthes – certain flatworms.
Usage notes
- Apparently paraphyletic, because members of order Lecithoepitheliata are more closely related to than they are to other members of Neoophora. The remaining members of Neoophora would apparently be monophyletic and would be members of clade Euneoophora in subclass Trepaxonemata.
