Nieuwerhoek
Dutch
Etymology
Attested as Nieuwehoek in 1839-1859. Compound of an inflected form of nieuw (“new”) and hoek (“corner”). The settlement was founded by the Van Hoek family of Amsterdam. The element nieuw was added to avoid confusion with two now-disappeared settlements.
