Nijehaske
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as nya hascha in 1496. Borrowed from West Frisian Nijehaske, probably derived from a compound of Old Frisian nia (“new”) and *haske (“a species of grass”). The element nij was added to distinguish the settlement from Oudehaske.
The neighbourhood is named after the village.
