Etymology 2
From Italian pasta, from the Latin word above.
Noun
Pasta f (genitive Pasta, no plural)
- (chiefly commercial) Italian-style pasta
Usage notes
- The normal term is Nudeln. Pasta is sometimes used in advertising contexts and on restaurant menus to imply traditional and authentic Italian cuisine. Some speakers may also use it more freely in this sense, but referring to a plate of supermarket spaghetti as Pasta would almost certainly sound pretentious.
