Etymology
More information
- First conceived in 1958 by Swedish mycologist John Eriksson as the subfamily Phanerochaetoideae of family Corticiaceae. Later published validly in 1986 by Estonian mycologist Erast Parmasto.
- Raised to family status in 1982 by Swiss mycologist Walter Jülich.
- In 2007, Karl-Henrik Larsson proposed using the name "Phanerochaetaceae" to refer to the clade of crust fungi clustered near genus Phanerochaete.
- A more extensive molecular phylogenetics analysis in 2013 showed Phanerochaetaceae to be a subclade of the large phlebioid clade, which also includes members of the families Meruliaceae and Irpicaceae.
- The genus Phanerochaete was revised in 2015 and new genera were added in 2016.
