Etymology
From Ancient Greek φυτό (phutó, “plant”) + σαῦρος (saûros, “lizard”) + -ia. By surface analysis, phyto- + -saur + -ia. The first fossils of phytosaurs were mistakenly thought to belong to plant eaters.
