Plockwurst
German
Etymology
From Low German Plockwost. For the first element there are three explanations: (1) from Middle Low German plock, pluck (“post, stake”), cognate of German Pflock, due to its shape, which is reminiscent of a fence post; (2) from a variant of Block (“block”); (3) from a Low German word for “lump of fat”, in turn likely from Middle Low German plücken (“to pluck”), cognate of German pflücken; perhaps comparable to English pluck (“entrails”).
