From Pselaphus +‎ -odes; or possibly borrowed from Ancient Greek ψηλᾰφώδης (psēlăphṓdēs), from Ancient Greek ψηλᾰφᾰ́ω (psēlăphắō) with influence from Pselaphus, the type genus of the subfamily Pselaphinae.
