Unattested verb only found in compounds (see derived terms below), from Proto-Indo-European *gʰed- (to find, hold).[1] Cognate with Ancient Greek χανδάνω (khandánō, to hold), English get (via Old Norse geta). Related to praeda and perhaps also hedera.
