Etymology

Borrowed from Dravidian, whence Telugu దబ్బు (dabbu, to cover).[1] Per Turner, to be separated from *𑀤𑁆𑀭𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀇 (*drappaï, presses) and Sanskrit दृप् (dṛp) though he suggests that these roots may have collided with each other.[2]
