Reconstruction:Proto-Celtic/ɸroweros
Proto-Celtic
Etymology
Of disputed reconstruction. The two possibilities are outlined by Schrijver as follows:[1]
- *ɸroweros has no further extra-Celtic etymology, but can be connected to the root of Old Irish fo·fera (“to prepare”).
- *laweros has been connected to from Proto-Indo-European *leh₂w- (“benefit, prize”), to be compared to Ancient Greek λᾱρός (lārós, “tasty”).
