From Proto-Uralic *-ńće-, *-nśe-. Related to the diminutive suffix *-ic(c)ë- and the frequentative verb suffix *-istak (stem *-isë-; the *c(c) ~ *s variation is also seen with *-ic(c)ë-).

*-it'ak / *-it'äk (stem *-iccë- / *-icce-)

Etymology 2
