Reconstruction:Proto-Finnic/hihna
Proto-Finnic
Etymology
From earlier *ši(k)šna, cognate with Proto-Samic *sësnē and Proto-Mordvinic [Term?] (whence Erzya кшна (kšna, “strap”), Moksha [script needed] (šna)), probably borrowed from a substrate language.
Proto-Baltic [Term?] (whence Latvian siksna, Lithuanian šikšnà) and Proto-Mari *šü̆štə (whence Eastern Mari шÿштö (šÿštö), Western Mari [script needed] (šəštə)) are probably separate loans from the same substrate source.[1]
