Proto-Finnic

Etymology

Unclear. The Baltic words (Lithuanian kadagys, Latvian kadiķis, Old Prussian kadegis) might be borrowed from Finnic, or vice versa. Uralic comparisons once proposed suffer from phonological issues. According to Junttila (2015), the Latvian word is borrowed from Baltic German (German Kaddig), which in turn may be from Old Prussian.[1]
