Etymology

*suke- +‎ *-u; the root is cognate with Proto-Samic [Term?] (whence Northern Sami sohka) and also found in *sugët'ak. Further etymology uncertain; has been proposed to be an Indo-European borrowing (ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *sewH-).
