From pre-Germanic *h₂ép-erom, accusative/allative to an adjective *h₂ép-eros, itself a comparative formation from Proto-Indo-European *h₂epo (off, away); compare Sanskrit अपर (apara, posterior, later; following) and अपरम् (aparam).[1]
