Proto-Germanic

Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *pod-néh₂-ti, from *pod- (to fetch), and cognate with Old Church Slavonic попасти (popasti, to fetch).[1] Whether the root is further connected to *ped- (to walk, stumble, fall) is unclear and semantically dubious.
