From Proto-Indo-European *pl̥h₂meh₂ (“palm of the hand”),[1] from Proto-Indo-European *pleh₂- (“flat”).[2] Cognate with Latin palma (“palm”), Proto-Celtic *ɸlāmā (“hand”), Ancient Greek παλάμη (palámē, “palm of the hand”).
